SAC Federal Credit Union flying high

The Omaha area’s SAC Federal Credit Union is moving its 140 employees into a new 94,000-square-foot $25 million headquarters in Papillion at 72nd Street and Nebraska Highway 370.

SAC Federal’s assets have doubled in five years reaching nearly $700 million, with membership rising from 30,000 to 80,000. If it were a commercial bank, these assets would rank SAC Federal as Nebraska’s sixth largest.

SAC Federal is approaching $1 billion in assets which would place it among the 50 largest U.S. credit unions.

The new glass and steel headquarters was designed and built to accommodate future growth continuing at the current rate. It was planned to look like $1 billion.

The new building includes a fitness center, a branch office and plenty of open space for meetings now and growing later.

Also included are green radiant heating, LED lighting and automatic controls.

SAC Federal moved from Maryland to Omaha in 1949 as the area became home to the military group in charge of the U.S. nuclear arsenal.
