Omaha best place to start a tech company

Financial blog SmartAsset placed Omaha in the No. 1 spot for the best place in the country to start a tech company. Factors that contributed to the ranking included the low cost of living and high wages.

The study evaluated more than 200 cities. It looked at wages for all workers, tech workers, percentage of employees in the tech industry and cost of living. It found Omaha’s cost of living is 88.3 percent of the national average. Of all workers in Omaha, 3.8 are employed in tech jobs.

For those employed in tech, the study found those individuals make 74 percent more than the city’s average pay.

Internet speed also is no slouch in Omaha. The study reported the city has average Internet speeds of 35.6 megabytes per second. That is a whopping 50 percent greater speed than the national average.
