Unemployment stays low in Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska continues to post low unemployment numbers that consistently beat the national average, and January was no exception.

This week, the Nebraska Department of Labor reported the state’s unemployment rate in January was 2.9 percent, down from 3.1 percent in December. That number is revised from the 2.9 percent that was previously reported. It also is a decline from a year ago when the unemployment rate was 3.4 percent.

The labor department reported the state’s nonfarm employment was at 982,468 in January, an increase of nearly 12,000 from a year ago. The industries that posted the most job gains were education, health services, professional service and business services.
